Cartography Lab

This map was an intro to cartography for me. Tasked with creating a map of UWF's location, I learned specific cartographic skills like incorporating essential map elements and built on the GIS skills I learned in the orientation lab such as using color technique and experimenting with meaningful symbology. The final product exhibits all of the major location indicators (close cities, close counties, major relative highways, major nearby rivers) that one might need to develop an understanding of where UWF is located, which makes it easily understandable and effective. Strategically manipulating visual elements was the most tedious and time-consuming part of this lab, but it gave me a solid foundation for digital map-making.

Orientation Lab

The Orientation Lab was a new and rewarding experience for me. I learned to import external data into ArcGIS Pro, rearrange the data layers, symbolize the sequential data, and then apply a map layout to present this data frame. I also learned the basics of ArcGIS Pro such as the Explore feature, the Help feature, and the functions of different Panes. I enjoyed the process of using all of this newfound knowledge to turn simple data sets about cities and world countries into a representative, high-quality map. Additionally, this lab was the first time I've never really worked with file organization, and I appreciate my new ability to skillfully manipulate file locations.
